DIY Lace Stamped Bowl

I've seen DIY mini bowls (or trinket dishes) floating around Pinterest for LIKE EVER. I'm pretty sure I have at least five pinned. Since I can never seem to keep track of my wedding ring (it's really a problem- ask my husband), I figured I'd make one of these cuties* myself. See below for a fun little video and more details on supplies.

*Are you all caught up on Master of None??? I now think of Arnold whenever I hear the word "cutie".
SUPPLIES:
  • Air dry clay
  • Piece of lace (I used 1/4 yd of lace trim)
  • Rolling pin
  • Parchment or wax paper
  • Glass or glazed clay bowl (I used one for cutting the circle and one to give a round shape to the bowl)
  • Butter knife or Exacto knife
  • sandpaper
  • paint and paintbrush (I used glitter paint found here in champagne)
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Knead and roll clay into a ball. I used about 1/3 or the clay package. Use rolling pin to roll clay to 1/4" thick. (I rolled the clay onto my very textured wood table. I do not recommend this. I would put down some parchment or wax paper first)
  2. Grab your lace and place on top of flat clay. I used to rolling pin to lightly press it into the clay to make a more defined print. Be careful not to press too hard! Repeat if desired.
  3. Once you are happy with your print, remove from flat surface and place into bowl (or if you want the lace on the outside of your trinket dish, place clay over an upside down bowl). NOTE: I attempted to use a metal bowl with my first design. Once dry, the clay would NOT come off. I ended up having to break it apart. This is why I suggest glass or a glazed clay bowl.
  4. Trim edges with knife. Allow to dry for 24 hours or whatever is recommended by the clay's package.
  5. Once completely dry, gently remove from glass bowl. Sand any rough edges.
  6. Now it's time to paint! I used a gold glitter paint to highlight the lace pattern. I also painted to entire outside of the bowl with the gold.
  7. Allow to dry and ENJOY!
